    File Corruption...

    Hello,

I am experiencing a very strange (and very worrying) issue. I uploaded some files via my application and all was working fine (upload & download) for quite some time now.

Recently I have uploaded some files that once downloaded give me a "file corrupted" error.

I tried to upload the files via my application, on the Nirvanix Filesystem and on the Nirvanix Client to see if it was a local issue of my app.

In all cases the result is the same, the files end up  "corrupted".  I have of course tried several variations (change filename, use different file type), but the issue seems to be pretty random (i.e. I can't predict if the file will have trouble).

    Some info:

1- The files open properly on my pc prior to upload..

2- The file I used are small (less than a MB)

3- I tried on different computers and from different ips

The only constant I could detect is that once a file is "corrupted" it will be corrupted all the time, regardless of the application used to upload it.

thanks in advance for your help.

    ciao

    Luca

    Luca:

I was going to suggest that you use the MD5 hash functionality on the client and compare that hash that Nirvanix sends back after the upload is complete, then again on file download.  That would help you to rule out any corruption happening due to internet congestion, lost packets, etc.

As for a file seeming to stay corrupted even if you upload it.. that's odd.  Did you try deleting the file first on the server, then uploading a new one, rather then uploading to overwrite the file?

Luca, I would like you to send the paths of the files you suspect are corrupted to customerservice@nirvanix.com.  We take any chance of a file being corrupted very seriously and will look into it at the highest priority.

If the file(s) are small enough please zip and attach the source file (assuming it does not contain any private information)

    Regards,

Thank you for your report Luca.  We put a team immediately on the issue.  It looks like there was a problem when writing one of the copies.  We have restored all five files with issues from hot copies.  Please advise if there are any further problems.

Thank you for the update!  Can we have additional information that explains why this happened and what y'all are doing to prevent it in the future?  Thanks!
