Feature Request: zip (& tar?) manipulation

Just a thought: just as the image/audio/video namespace functions help Nirvanix differentiate from S3, it occurs to me that having the (affordable) capacity to create and update zip archives from uploaded files could be a very useful function.

Example use case: collaborators upload various elements of a project, which - after creating or updating a zip archive via REST calls - users could then download as a single .zip (or tar?) file.

Just thought it might be worth discussing at your next roadmap meeting ;-)

Thats an excellent suggestion, I have submitted this feature idea to the team so we can discuss it.

    Thank you,

Re: Feature Request: zip (& tar?) manipulation

in my case I would also need to be able to unzip an archive...

the reason is that I have some archive uploaded, but I want to be able to store the file separetely in some cases without having to download the zip and then re-upload every single file...

     hope it helps

     ciao

     Luca

Re: Feature Request: zip (& tar?) manipulation

We have had this request in for quite some time and have been trying to push it up in our priority list as well.  We are looking at an interface that would take an array of file paths and put them in a zip with optional password protection.  The opposite would be true as well allowing you to upload a single zip and then call a command to extract the files into your account.  Outside of the user use cases this has a huge impact on the ability to upload many small files.

Re: Feature Request: zip (& tar?) manipulation

In our project management application we are developing, before we switched from local server to Nirvanix, users will allowed to select all or specific files associated with their project and zip and download them. I would love to have this feature back! Please Nirvanix can you get this released soon :) ?

While this is an exciting feature I do not have any new information on when it will be available.

Unfortunately, not at this time.  I am still working to push the priority of this item due to it's popularity, but we have been doing heavy work on the infrastructure of our system to improve stability and redundancy.
