    New Media Transcoding Prices

    Dear Nirvanix,

I think you guys should reconsider your new media transcoding price structure. I understand that a big selling point of your services startups is faster development time, and I agree that media transcoding is a great idea but $1/GB kind of ruins it for my business plan. At the end of the day most of us are not VC funded startups we are bootstraps and even the VC guys I would imagine would have to really look at again. We were thinking Nirvanix's pricing would be much lower is all I'm trying ot say. If we did uploaded 500 GB of video per month for a while that means our cost would be $500 (or is it $1000 because we would need image extraction as well) plus the storage and traffic fees. On my Amazon SQS/EC2 setup for a video sharing site that I currently have up and running I'm spending about $.60 cents per GB and I'm only paying once for the conversion and the image extraction. That is $300 compared to the $500 (possibly $1000) that I mentioned earlier. Just my two cents.

    Re: New Media Transcoding Prices

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback and insights. It is very helpful to see specific details on customer usage situations so that we can refine our product to help customers be successful.

The pricing we released is created for customers with low Media Services usage. The scenario that you outlined sounds like a prime candidate for the Media Services package pricing that we will be releasing in the next few months. This option will allow you to make use of our Media Services without having to worry about how many transactions or how much data you pass through the system. The simplicity and built-in cost control would be a much better fit for your needs.

I would like to set-up some time to talk with you and get your input regarding this package option as well as our product and features as a whole. I have sent you a private message through the forums with my contact information so we can set-up a call.

    Best Regards,
    Peter

Is the processing fee based on the input or output size?

The pricing is based on input (source) file size.

    Hi Peter,

I'm also very interested in knowing more about your Media Services Package option.  Is there any tentative information you can give me?

     Thx.
